Vacation Suggestions?

Now I have about 10 (9 actually +a few HTO's from working on a holiday) or so unused vacation leaves from 2008 that needs to be consumed before the end of March. This is perfectly fine since I want to go on vacation, but I can't decide where. Yes, I am willing to travel alone if I have to but getting someone to join me would be fine too.

I've already decided to go here to spend some of my vacation days by going to the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta in the Clark Airbase, Pampanga this February. But since the event lasts 4 days, I have to pick which day I will attend. Schedule in the link below:

I'm looking for other travel suggestions since there are probably better and cheaper alternatives. Budget inclusive of pocket money would probably be 1500-2000 USD max. Oh, and I prefer not to go to places that involve a lot of shopping and/or beaches. I'm in the mood for going around places and not exactly lounging around. If I wanted those, I'd go to Divisoria or a mall to shop or to my home town of Olongapo to swim.

One more thing, am I the only one that thinks a 3 day, 4 night or 4 day 3 night trip too short when visiting another place or country (especially another country)?

Went to the Canon Service Center in Makati earlier. Looks like they already had the parts available at some other place, but the stuff wasn't delivered to their office. Good thing I went there earlier so that they could follow up on it. They said that I should be able to get my camera back on Saturday.

I just got a text message earlier that I won something for attending Heat Wave 2007 at Megamall last December. Boy, was I surprised. I won free lodging for 2 (overnight) stay at Puerto del Sol. I also have the option of spending 3 days and 2 nights at either Boracay or Bohol. Oooooooooooooooooooor I can spend 3 days and 2 nights at either Singapore, Thailand, China or Malaysia.

Honestly, I was sceptical, thinking that it was some sort of scam. But now, I hold in my hand the gift certificate as proof after going to their office. The didn't even ask for any money and I have an entire year for me to decide when and where I'm going to use the certificate. Beijing Olympics anyone (sis' suggestion and she wants to go with me lol)?

I discovered a few weeks ago that the zoom out/exposure lock button on my 40D was messed up. Whenever I'm reviewing images and need to zoom out, it reverts back to shooting mode. Not to mention that there's a dead pixel right at the middle of the LCD screen.

So, I just took my cam to a Canon Service Center today. The service rep said that it will take a week for it to be repaired assuming that the parts are available. Otherwise, I have to wait for another 2 weeks.

Movies and MYMP

January 25, my sister's birthday. I didn't have much to do yesterday since my sis already left for school when I woke up, so I opted to watch some movies at SM Sucat.

The first thing that I saw was Aliens vs Predator 2. Honestly, I felt that it was a waste of money. My best friend owned a copy of the first book (which I've read back in highschool) and I own a copy of the second book. I really cound't agree with the fact that they only sent one Predator to deal with all those aliens and that the said Predator prefers to use the blaster as its choice of weapon. In the books, the more skilled Predators prefer to use close range weapons. Oh and predators in the books didn't skin people/aliens, they take their skulls as trophies instead. Mostly, it was just people running and shooting and getting lucky by getting a predator blaster. Oh, and "The government doesn't lie" LOL

Its quite rare for me to watch 2 movies in a row in 1 day... The next thing that I watched was the fourth installment of Rambo. As an action film, this was MUCH better AVP. One thing that I would like to note is that the movie has a lot of blood, guts and a great big explosion.

Finally, MYMP was at SM Sucat later that evening. I have to admit that I'm not a fan. I've heard of them though my old team mates at work, but haven't had the chance to actually listen to them. They were actually pretty good. The guy, Chin bears some resemblance to one of my old team mates Prijm. Luckily I had my camera with me, so I had the chance to take some photos of them performing. I was at the 6th row from the front, so I was right at the middle of the place. One thing that I ended up wishing for was more zoom. While I was getting somewhat decent results at 55mm, I was really wishing for a whole lot more zoom. One of the fun parts during their performance was when Juris's mic started to act up due to a bad cable. She ended up speaking in Bisaya (to the point that she had a converstaion of some sort with the audience), much to the amusement of the crowd. As for me, I had to idea what they were talking about lol. You can catch the pics that I took at the photos section of my site :)

I just went to my first ever car show today. I waited for Prijm at McDonalds BF Paranaque and met with Ryan near the Bicutan exit at SLEX. Once we were all together, we went to the Silver City Automall in Ortigas.

Walking and taking in all of the sights there was overwhelming, but all the cars and cute girls certainly made up for it. Right now, I'm at a loss for words to properly describe the event. What I do have, though, are pics from the event. You might see the same pic twice or even thrice, but that's because I had to test how the picture looks with and without flash. After all, crappy camera is crappy (3.2 megapixel Pentax Optio MX). One of these days, I'll be getting myself a nice DSLR camera, but I won't be able to get one till next year. My 13th month pay will be going to my car so that I could get it customized a bit.

Pacing is whacked out and you can't sympathize with the characters since they try to cram so many things in such a short period of time. Bottom line, don't waste your money on this movie. Go watch Stardust instead :D

Man, this week has been ugly. For some reason, those really small things at the office have been getting to me everytime. Extra work, spilling my drink at my desk, lack of sleep, the nagging feeling that me and my friends are drifing apart, stuff about my personal life. I can't help but feel that all my pent up frustrations are about to burst. Well, its either that or I go into a state of major depression.

Its been said that there are only 2 things constant in life. Death and taxes (the only good thing about death is that, unlike taxes, it only comes once). I have to deal with these changes in my life to the best of my capabilities.

3 months since my last post. A lot of stuff has happened.

I got myself a Nintendo DS and currently wasting my time with Rune Factory. Managed to finish Ace Attorney 1-3 (OBJECTION!!! lol) although I had to use a FAQ a few times. I still have a handfull of games that I need to play and complete like Luminous Arc and Heroes of Mana. But what I'm really looking forward to is October 1 aka the release date of the english version of The Legend of Zelda: Phatom Hourglass.

Went to a concert for the very first time. I must say, Switchfoot blew me away. I never thought that concerts could really pump you up. Hi to Mitch, Joan and Jobert! Had fun spending some time with y'all. Let's all meet up again sometime :)

Work's been pretty much the same. I'm stuck in the night shift till December for better or for worse. At least I get paid more. And with my current schedule, I'll be working on several holidays so I'll be earning several holiday time off's. Wohoo!

Love life? Still non-existant. Hopefully it will change in the near future. The life of a single guy is fun in itself since I don't have that many obligations, but I really need a change.

I was surprised yesterday that the girl I was dating last year now has her first boyfriend. He was also her team mate at the place she works at. I really don't care about her now, just mildly surprised (although there were some small hints before).

On the lighter side of things, Rubik's Cubes... I'm addicted to them. It now takes me less than 3 minutes to solve one. I still need to work on my time though. I'll get there eventually :D

Got 3 days off this week since I worked 6 days last week. Unfortunately, I've got nothing better to do. I won't be reporting for work till Thursday, which also happens to be the day my dad returns from his work abroad.

I do, however, feel like I'll be a regular customer at Starbucks near our place. I like their barista Joanne. Found out that she started working there about 3 or 4 months ago. Kinda funny that she still remembers me considering that I've only been there about 4 or 5 times. Probably because I purchased that coffee press about 2 months ago. I'll probably drop by again tomorrow. :D

It took them 5 days and rescheduled my interview 3 times before I got to them.

It goes without saying that I was as nervous as heck. 1 Operations Manager and 1 Team Leader were my interviewers. While this may be my second interview for a team lead position, my first interview was when I was like 5-6 months with the company. Obviously, I was getting too ahead of myself.

It felt a little bit better than before but I'd rather not keep my expectations up. I just hope that they don't that IJP for Volumes Manager in the bulletin board within the next 2 or 3 weeks. I'd like to know where I stand regarding my current application.

Thank God that there were some changes with my schedule this week, so I had to report for work earlier today. Otherwise, I would have just went there for absolutely nothing.

Since this was an application for promotion, I was hoping that my supervisors would provide me with some feedback that could help me out with my application.

Person A shurgs it off and says, "Hey, I've coached him before, he's good to go already."

Person B almost agreed to Person A, but thought better. Person B went back, approached me and offered a few words of advise. It was only a handful of words but it meant the world to me. I wasn't expecting much from them. Especially from Person A. Person B may not have the best reputation on the floor, however, he has earned my respect.

I wonder, what kind of support would we get if the guy Person B replaced didn't resign?

Did Person A really want me to get the shot? I was denied the chance for an application 2 months ago. I was hurt like goddamn hell. You don't put down people who work with you. Especially if they are the ones who report directly to you. They are your men... Your arms and legs... The people who grease the cogs and wheels that make you look good in front of everyone... But what do we get? CRAP.

They gave me some silly reason which I never really bought.

They told me the reason when the selection process was over.

I never had the chance for an appeal.

Well, I have a shot at it now. I'll give it everything that I've got. It goes without saying that I'm still hoping that there will be some kind soul that will give me some kind of advise. Some kind of support that I've been looking for. Something that has been missing from my life for the past year that caused the way I lived my office life to change completely.

But, the past is the past. Dwelling on it won't make any kind of difference. Just cough it up to experience. I'll just focus on what I have now. Work on the task that is in front of me.

This is kinda like a good day to me. I reserved some books at a local bookstore about a month ago and earlier, my grandma got a call from them informing us that the books have arrived! If memory serves me right, the books that I reserved were Light Fantastic, Colour of Magic, Reaper Man, Hogsfather and Good Omens. I'm assuming that I will be spending about 3k tomorrow. I'm just happy that I did not end up buying some books a few days ago. Especially since I just started reading Going Postal.

The not so good thing that happened was someone was telling me that some disks that they ordered were bad. I'm generally very skeptical about stuff regarding my work and the information that he was providing me was less than satisfactory. Meaning I was dealing with an idiot. I wish i was there to troubleshoot the deal and get it fixed. I have a gut feeling that the end user was having computer problems that were in no way related to the disk that I provided them

I'm feeling depressed for some strage reason recently. Such things never really get to me most of the time. Maybe it's because of the messed up application again. Once again, I feel like travelling without a destination. No... I never had a destination to begin with. I just took a nap under the shade of a tree for a little bit.

Email support is starting to get dull real fast for me. It lacks a certain something. Granted that I work rather fast there, but it doesn't give me any real form of satisfaction. The other people are slow too. And the comments stating that I can handle the rest of the queue is getting on my nervs. With attitude like that, it's not a surprise that it's taking me a rather long time to loosen up with my new team.

I miss my old team like mad. With the change of our shift schedules, I'm only able to meet 2 of my old team mates. Even though there was some tension with the team, they're still my team. Like I said, there's something missing with the way my life is right now.

Life goes on

Long time no post. I've been very busy these past few weeks. I've mostly been working for 2 weeks non stop. There were even instances where I had to stay up for over 24 hours just to keep up with my commitments. The exhaustion finally caught up with me a few days ago. Killer head aches, a really bad cold and a small cough. At least now, I finally got 3 days off from work (Friday-Sunday). Even though I still have commitments to keep this week, it's not as bad as the weeks before where I had split days off.

Now on to the lighter side of things.

I finally managed to purchase a monitor for my sister's computer. Now I can start on building the darn thing and get her off my pc. It shouldn't take that long to build it. What came to me as a pleasant surprise was when I was opening the old pc (purchased 1996) that we have here, I was surpirsed to find 2 hdd's in it. While I knew that one of them was the 10gig hdd that we purchased a few years ago I am still raking my head as to when and where we purchased the other 40gig hdd that was inside the pc.

I just sent the payment for the game that I ordered last Febuary. In case you're wondering, it's Super Robot Wars Alpha 3 for the PS2. Release date is July 14! And to top it off, Banpresto just released the main character list for the game!

I just got my copy of the game today. And my first impression of it was that the battle system is somewhat reminiscent of Valkyrie Profile. But at the same time it's different. It's pretty hard to explain till you play the game first hand. I can only hope that this game gets an english port pretty soon. :)

Puerto Galera

So, I'm back from Puerto Galera. I should have made this entry the other day but I was far too exhausted to do anything productive. Heck, even my calls from the other day were crappy.

Now, on to business. We swam (some floated away because of the current), we got henna tattoos, went on the banana boat (which does not look like a banana in any way whatsoever) bathed in the sun and everything else in between.

Of course things did not go without a single hitch whatsoever. Because of the high volume of calls from last Sunday, we weren't able to leave the office right away. This force us into renting a van instead of just taking the bus. This messed up the team's budget big time. Good thing I brought some extra cash. Fortunately we were still able to catch the last trip for the trip to Galera. There was hardly anyone else in the boat. Just the team and a handful of people.

The boat ride was about 1 hour long. We took photos, some were anxious about the ride mostly de to sea sickness. Fortunately most of those who were afraid were able to overcome it and enjoy the ride. The best part of the ride was actually when we were about to get off the boat. The cabin attendant who was going to meet up with us had a small piece of white board with the words "PRECIOUS BORJA AND FRIENDS" ROFL!!!! Now if that doesn't tell us who we were going to meet up with, I don't know what will.

The cabin was only a short walk way from the place where we got off from the boat. It's a fairly large room with 4 king size beds, toilet, kitchen facilities, a/c (this is important!) and a TV set with cable. Albert managed to bring his Xbox so we hooked it up to the TV set and we played different games on the system at random times during our stay there. Surprisingly Jimmy got addicted to the system and probably stayed inside the room and played more than any of the team. There were times when I would wake up early in the morning and find him playing NBA.

Several of us got henna tattoos. Namely me, Albert, Prijm, Sheena, Ayie, Cams, and TL Precious. Sheena, Prijm, Cams, Ayie and Pre got their tattoos in the morning while Albert and I got our tattoos in the evening. TL also got another tattoo with us in the evening.

Banana boat. It doesn't look like a banana. Well, maybe it would if it was pure yellow. Anyway it was 20 mins of tossing, tuning and pulling everyone else up. It's very fun although exhausting. Little did I know that the next event would tire me out even more.

Snorkeling. This was something that I was really looking forward to. I enjoy swimming ever since I was taught how to swim. Seeing all those corals and fishes were simply incredible. Words are simply not enough to convey the beauty of the sight that we were ale to witness. Fishes and corals came in just about every color you could imagine. Sheena's quest for the green fishes, Jimmy being swept away by the current, Albert and Bob getting exhausted going after Jim. Now about the current, it was pretty strong near the surface. I was being swept away by the current simply by just floating and not moving. Swimming against the current was no laughing matter either. Going against the flow can easily exhaust someone. My only regret was that the digicam that I brought was not water proof otherwise, I would have taken several shots of the underwater scenery that was right below us.

Nighttime. Some drank liquor, some slept, some played some card games. I slept like a log during the first day of our stay at Galera. I've been awake that time since 12AM and slept at around 9 or something while most of the gang drank. 2nd night was a little bit more different. Some still drank, but the fun part was when we played a rather noisy card game. Mars who was sleeping at the time woke up because of the noise scolded us but joined the game a few minutes later. Who would have guessed that she was actually going to be the noisiest in the group. LOL!!!
The last day was spent buying some souvenirs. I bought some bracelets, anklets and shirts. Shame about the mug. I wanted to buy one but wasn’t able to do so due to time constraints. The boat ride back to Batangas was a major drag. It was sooooooooooo overloaded that the boat was forced to move at roughly half its normal speed. The 1 hour trip to Galera became a 2 hour trip back to Batangas. It was THAT slow. To top it all off, it was raining when we arrived at Alabang. At least I did get back home safe and sound (although I was a little bit soaked)

A look at todays society

It's amazing how people are nowadays. Just as I have read somewhere before, we live in a generation of instant gratification. True that it does make things a whole lot more convenient for us, sadly this also has a negative effect. People simply just dont bother looking further, reading or even doing a little bit of research. It never really hurt anyone and you could acutally learn a new thing or two.

Now on to my own furstrations that I just need to let out.
There will always be a time when we will fall. Anyone and everyone can and will be frustrated when such an event happens. So, I keep on fumbling these past few weeks. Some of these were caused by my own mistakes, some where out of my control. I'd like to bitch and whine about it but that won't do me jack. The damage has been done all that I can do is stand back up and learn from my mistakes and try not to fall again.

Meh. Application was rejected. I knew that I did not pass some of the requirements, but it was worth taking a shot. Just like in Legacy of Kain Defiance, I wanted to bet that the coin would land on it's side. Alas, I am neither Kain nor Raziel. It did not land on its side. I did try though, that made me feel better than not trying at all. I don't want any kind of regrets whatsoever because I did not even exert any effort.

On the lighter side of things, I was acutally able to find some old cd's that I've been looking for ages. Also started to play Prince of Persia and XIII for the pc. I got my copy of those games when I purchased my processor. There was a promo, MSI 915p Neo2 Platinum (motherboard) + MSI Radeon RX600TX 126MB DDR (video card). The games were bundled with the vid card. I feel the computer is running out of memory at times tho, so next on my list would definitely be another stick of 512MB DDR2 RAM. Ahhh the expenses never stop. Well at least I can make good use of them.

Job Opening

As I was walking around the hallway in the office, I found out that there was a new opening for possible promotion . I was really happy when I saw it posted on the bulletin board but I was somewhat disappointed when I saw that I failed one of the metrics that was required for application. Sucks to be me, I know. But there was still a faint flame of hope when I saw that excemptions are still possible as long as it is approved by the Operations manager. This is something that I really need, I don't intend to be at the same position forever. I can and will take very chance for a possible promotion. The great thing about it too is that the position is still a techincal position which is something I enjoy minus all the hassle of talking to complete idiots and loosing my cool (well not really, it's just severely reduced).

I am so gonna prepare my resume later and hope that my application gets approved, hopefully get a shot at the interview and get promoted. Wish me luck!

Got my computer back 2 days ago, had to reformat it and all that, so here I am again with another rant. I was scanning through my stuff in the hdd and when I came across this one folder, windows gave me a messed up message saying that the drive was not formatted. The heck it is!

Looks like the gods are demanding that I need to format another drive (the ones I'm using right now have multiple partitions). Sucks for me. At least my friend is gonna lend me a hdd to temporarily transfer some of my files there so nothing is lost.

Enough of the rants. Well at least my pc is faster now and I can start playing new games. Probably gonna get myself a copy of Doom3 or HalfLife 2. Another thing that I am extremely happy about is that when I purchased the 160gig hd that I'm using, the previous box that it was installed to could only detect 130 gigs of storage. When I switched to the new system, I found out the system was able to detect the extra space of roughly 25gigs! More games and download space for me!

It has begun

Wow, a blog. I never though that I would actually start doing something like this. And with most blogs I'll probably talk about my daily life and interests. Stuff that makes me *tick* and my world go around.

For the past week or two, my computer's tempreature has been getting real hot (reaching 70 deg. celcius). I can't even use it properly in the afternoon without turning on the airconditioning unit. Sucks for me since AMD's don't handle the heat that well and water cooling is out of the question for me. What's a guy to do? Shell out the cash and get some new parts for the pc. Switched back to a Pentium after about 4 or 5 years with AMD.

Talk about a major overhaul. New board, processor, ram, psu and vid card. At least the vid card was free with the board due to a promo by MSI. Gonna start building the pc once I get back from work tomorrow.
